If a tenant does not move at the end of a lease term, the tenant becomes a holdover tenant. There may be a “holdover tenant” clause that addressed the consequences of holdover tenancies. Typically the landlord will have a provision that it can charge an increased rental value or that the lease is automatically renewed.

If this provision is onerous, it may make sense to reduce its impact just in case something unforeseen happens so that you have more options when it’s time to relocate.
